A framing blade typically refers to a carbide-tipped circular saw blade used for cutting wood framing lumber, which differs from diamond blades used for masonry. However, some diamond continuous rim blades are used alongside framing tools for cutting through mixed materials like nail-embedded lumber or composite decking during remodeling.

For cured concrete, a laser-welded turbo or segmented blade with undercut protection, such as a 42-segment heavy-duty blade, provides the best combination of speed and blade life. For freshly poured green concrete, a soft-bond early entry blade minimizes raveling and spalling while cutting control joints.

Segmented blades have gaps between diamond segments that aid cooling and debris removal, making them ideal for dry cutting hard materials like concrete and asphalt. Continuous rim blades have an unbroken diamond edge, producing smoother, chip-free cuts and are typically used for wet cutting tile, stone, and glass.

Wet cutting reduces dust and heat for cleaner cuts, while dry cutting offers greater portability; always check the manufacturer's specification for the specific blade and material combination.

Asphalt cutting requires a softer bond blade with slanted gullets and cooling holes to prevent clogging from sticky asphalt debris, while concrete cutting benefits from a harder bond with undercut protection for aggregate abrasion resistance. Multi-purpose blades with 24+ segments handle both materials effectively for mixed jobsite conditions.

Early entry diamond blades are designed for cutting control joints in freshly poured green concrete, typically within hours of placement. They use a softer, color-coded bond matched to aggregate hardness and work with early entry walk-behind saws and skid plates to minimize raveling and spalling in new slabs.
